AJAX are delighted to receive the Shapa Company of the Year Award for 2021 in recognition of our expertise in the field of solids handling.

Ajax Equipment wins SHAPA Company of the Year Award

Solids handling equipment maker, Ajax Equipment, has been awarded the prestigious Company of the Year Award for 2021 by the Solids Handling and Processing Association (SHAPA); Ajax was also shortlisted for the Export of the Year Award. Established in 1981, SHAPA is the UK's leading specialist association for the solids handling and processing industry.

The SHAPA Company of the Year is awarded to the organisation considered to have achieved the most in promoting solids handling best practice, setting aspirational industry standards and increasing sales. In 2020 Ajax accomplished a number of milestones, foremost of which was celebrating 50 years of developing and manufacturing solids handling and processing equipment, the accreditation of ISO 9001:2015 formally recognised Ajax’s high quality, methodical approach to design and manufacture, whilst turnover for the year was also a record.

2020 also saw Ajax supply some of the largest machines it has ever produced. These included several large agitated screw feeders, the largest of which was capable of holding 6m

of damp agrochemical powder and had an agitator with a diameter of almost 2m. For a biomass waste to energy provider Ajax designed and manufactured its largest screw feeder, a quadruple screw feeder featuring 11m long screws. Commenting on the award, Mike Bradley, SHAPA chairman, said, “Ajax are a company that has been around a long time, and they have built up a reputation for being able to supply equipment to deal with some of the more tricky solids handling problems, in an industry sector where much of the business is a race to the bottom on price often resulting in disappointment of customers. For that reason alone, Ajax deserve approbation and encouragement. But what marked out this year for Ajax was their achievement of new quality certification, a move into larger scale manufacturing and good export growth, all built on that quality of service to the user. Ajax are the sort of company we need more of in the UK - solid, steady long term growth, competitiveness in the export market due to quality products that sell internationally at a premium price, and a long term commitment to UK manufacturing. Very well done to Eddie and all of his team at Ajax.”

Eddie McGee, managing director, Ajax Equipment said, “I am delighted for Ajax to win the SHAPA Company of the Year Award. This is a distinguished award, and we value recognition by our peers in SHAPA. Our 50th year has been very productive so it’s great to have the hard work of the whole Ajax team and our absolute focus on customer satisfaction recognised.”

“Moving forward, our run of extremely large handling and processing equipment has continued well into 2021 with another quadruple screw feeder, a twin triple screw feeder and two high pressure rated screw conveyors with a common discharge chute just some of the projects that have been on the workshop floor recently. While recruitment to extend our team and completion of inhouse training of apprentices and technical staff sees Ajax well for the future. Our thanks are due to SHAPA as we extend our congratulations to the other category winners and shortlisted companies.”
